The month of June is now the third most popular month for couples to say, “I do.” Outdoor temperatures are generally milder but with a hint of the summer months to come. In our brief departure from our imaginary musical tour around the world, let’s take a look at the top 15 tunes selected by the newlyweds for their first dance. How many do you recall?
1. Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers has been the number one selection for many years.
2. All of Me by John Legend is a newcomer on the bridal scene but is a beautiful song written by him to his wife.
3. I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith takes the third position.
4. Frank Sinatra’s The Way You Look Tonight still tops the charts today.
5. At Last by Etta James – A classic!
6. Amazed was written in one candlelit sitting by songwriters Aimee Mayo, Marv Green, and Chris Lindsey for the country band Lonestar.
7. Country crooner, Tim McGraw, takes seventh place with his hit, My Best Friend.
8. Your Song was written by Englishman and musician Elton John.
9. Christina Perri sings the beautiful ballad A Thousand Years.
10. More of a modern song for today’s weddings is Marry Me, written by Pat Monahan of the band Train.
11. Ed Sheeran’s hit, Thinking Out Loud, is another favorite request at weddings.
12. In the number twelve spot is Frankie Valli’s Can’t Take My Eyes off You.
13. Here’s a beautiful song we all recognize! The number thirteen favorite is Can’t Help Falling In Love by Elvis.
14. Make You Feel My Love, made famous by Adele, was written by Bob Dylan.
15. I Won’t Give Up by Jason Mraz rounds out the top 15!
Just a footnote: The top three wedding dance selections of the 40s and 50s were: Unforgettable by Nat King Cole; All The Way by Frank Sinatra, and Dream A Little Dream of Me by Doris Day.
