You’re never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream. That’s the mentality of Morningside resident Phyllis White and co-owner of White’s Draperies in Placentia. White has worked 40 hours a week for nearly 70 years and shows no signs of slowing down.

“It gets me up and out of the house, and I wouldn’t want it any other way,” says White. “I love experimenting with different fabrics, talking to my customers, and creating something beautiful for them.”

White’s late husband, Walter started the business 69 years ago in 1951. White sewed, while Walter sold and installed. She’s been designing and sewing ever since. Now, their son Kevin is the proud owner of the family-owned business, but you can still find her at the shop Monday through Friday.

Because of her move to Morningside, White is able to continue working due to the worry-free lifestyle promoted in the community. Morningside staff knows the benefits of staying active, as research shows that working can delay the onset of age-related diseases and can help prevent isolation in seniors.

White is a prime example of age being just a number. Even in her 80s, she still does the 9-to-5 grind every day.

White was interviewed and featured on Spectrum News 1 SoCal. Watch below!
